For Your Kids

Gift giving is always accompanied by so much pressure. What should you buy? Will they like it? Can it be returned? Is it the right color? And it only gets worse when we're talking about buying gifts for the kids. Gift-giving is one of the few areas of a parent's responsibility that can't be foisted off onto the nanny agency. Toronto's toy stores call out for you and you alone. The vast aisles of toys, clothes, and games can reduce the undecided parent to a gibbering heap of panic as the deadline for Christmas or birthday shopping approaches. If that sounds like you, there's hope. Our series of articles on how to buy gifts for your children should help.

Most of the time there's a very clear dividing line between the two toy camps. You can tell where it is because everything on one side is blue and everything on the other side is pink. This color distinction is arbitrarily applied to everything from a plush teddy bear to a recumbant bike. Toronto has roughly the same number of each subset they're designed to appeal to in its population. We're talking, of course, about boys and girls. Males and females are often markedly different from one another, and we'll help you pick the best toys for each group.

Age gives us a whole other set of major divisions when it comes to toys and games. A two year old does not have the same interests and capabilities as a ten year old. Two year olds are primarily concerned with making their poopies go in the toilet, while your ten year old could probably understand the finer points of Cabbagetown real estate if you left your work papers lying around. As a consequence, a toy or game will be an instant flop if it's not designed to fit what they're capable of. If you're not all that familiar with your child's capabilities, we can help you make a guess as to what complexity of toy they'll be ready for based on their age.

These, of course, are just the major dividing lines. Like the paperwork accompanying a Brampton home for sale, there are also hidden elements waiting to trip up the unwary. You'll have to contend with such factors as what the child's interests are, what programs they watch on television, their favorite colors, their developmental age, whether they have friends or not, how much they weigh, whether your parental rules put any limits on what they're allowed to play with, and much more.

All this combines to make shopping for your kids' gifts only slightly less complicated than defusing a nuclear device. Whether you live in an igloo outside of Yellowknife or a condo in Kitchener, councelling is probably the only way you'd get through the coming ordeal if you hadn't stumbled across this website. As it is, take a deep breath, sit back, and give the articles a read through. In less than ten minutes we can have you ready to tackle this task. Ready? Break!
